Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has dismissed claims of a political fallout between himself and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, insisting that the two leaders remain on good terms despite ongoing speculation.
Speaking amid growing discussion about influence within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Babu maintained that there is no rivalry or personal conflict between him and Sifuna. He stated that reports suggesting a strained relationship have been exaggerated and do not reflect the reality of their interactions within the party.
At the same time, the outspoken lawmaker made a bold declaration about his standing in ODM, claiming that no leader within the party is politically stronger than him. The statement is expected to generate debate among supporters and critics alike, given the presence of several high-profile figures within the party's leadership structure.
Babu argued that his political influence has been built through years of grassroots engagement and strong support from voters, particularly among young people. He emphasized that his confidence should not be interpreted as an attack on fellow ODM leaders but rather as a reflection of his belief in his own political journey and achievements.
The MP further noted that leadership within ODM should not be viewed as a competition between individuals. According to him, leaders such as Sifuna and others play different but complementary roles aimed at strengthening the party and advancing its agenda.
His remarks come at a time when conversations about the future direction of ODM continue to dominate political discussions. With the country's political landscape gradually shifting ahead of future elections, observers are closely monitoring relationships among senior party figures and emerging leaders.
While Babu's comments may spark fresh debate about influence within ODM, he was clear on one point: there is no bad blood between him and Sifuna. However, his assertion about being the party's strongest political force is likely to keep him at the center of political conversations in the days ahead.
