Edwin Sifuna Announces Major Linda Mwananchi Rally Comeback at Tononoka Grounds After Ramadan

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that the Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a major political rally at Tononoka Grounds shortly after the end of Ramadan, signaling a renewed push to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 political season.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has confirmed that the Linda Mwananchi movement will stage a major rally at Tononoka Grounds soon after the conclusion of Ramadan, marking the movement’s return to active political mobilisation.

Speaking during a church service in Ruai on March 14, Sifuna said the movement had temporarily paused its activities to allow members and supporters to observe the holy month while also reflecting on the next phase of their political strategy.

According to the senator, the upcoming rally will be an opportunity to reconnect with ordinary Kenyans and highlight the economic and social challenges many citizens continue to face.

Sifuna also referred to the historical significance of Tononoka Grounds, recalling a famous religious crusade held there in 1957 where a blind man was reportedly healed. He suggested that the same venue could once again inspire awakening this time politically among citizens.

The Linda Mwananchi movement had earlier taken a short break after organising a massive rally in Kakamega that drew thousands of supporters. Sifuna explained that the pause allowed leaders within the movement to reorganise, mobilise resources, and develop a structured one-year roadmap aimed at expanding their influence across the country.

Meanwhile, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi revealed that Nyali MP Mohammed Ali is expected to formally join the movement during the Tononoka event. Ali is also considered a potential gubernatorial candidate in Mombasa.

The Linda Mwananchi faction emerged from internal disagreements within the Orange Democratic Movement after some leaders opposed plans by sections of the party to support William Ruto for a second presidential term.

This disagreement led to the formation of a rival faction known as Linda Ground, which is associated with Oburu Odinga.

Political reactions to the movement remain mixed. Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has dismissed its momentum, describing it as a political “bushfire” that could fade quickly.

However, Siaya Governor James Orengo has defended the movement, comparing its rise to a “tsunami” that cannot easily be stopped.

Political analyst Herman Manyora has also weighed in, praising Sifuna’s growing popularity and suggesting that the senator could play a significant role in shaping the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

With preparations underway, the planned rally at Tononoka Grounds is expected to be a key moment for the Linda Mwananchi movement as it seeks to consolidate support and expand its presence across the country.
