Revealed: 3 Costly Tricks HELB Warned Students About Before July Disbursement

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has issued an urgent warning to university and college students ahead of the much-anticipated July 2025 disbursement.

In a statement released on Monday, HELB outlined three common scams that have recently surged, leaving many applicants frustrated and financially stranded.

The first trick involves fake social media pages and WhatsApp groups that promise faster loan processing at a fee.

HELB emphasized that they do not charge any money for loan applications or follow-ups. Students are advised to rely only on the official HELB portal.

The second scam targets students through SMS alerts claiming their loan has been delayed due to incorrect bank details. Victims are often tricked into sharing their personal information, which is later used for identity theft and fraud.

The third warning concerns impersonators who call students pretending to be HELB officials. These callers ask for login details or MPESA confirmation codes, claiming they need to "verify" the loan.

HELB urged students to report any suspicious activity and reminded them that all official communication comes from verified channels. As the July release approaches, students are advised to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to these costly traps.

KCSE Exam Results to be Released in 10 Days, Says PS Belio Kipsang

The eagerly awaited Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results will be released in the next 10 days, according to Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.
The announcement comes as the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) continues its thorough analysis of the exam results, addressing concerns raised about possible malpractices during the tests.

A Thorough Review of Results

In a statement made on January 2, 2025, Kipsang confirmed that the KNEC is working diligently to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the results before their release.
This year, the process is being closely monitored after reports of irregularities during the exams, which have raised alarms among educators and examiners alike.

"Although we understand the anxiety among candidates and their families, it is important that we take the time to properly assess the results to uphold the credibility of our education system," Kipsang explained.

KPSEA Results Under Review

Alongside the KCSE results, the KNEC is also analysing the outcomes of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which was undertaken by Grade 6 learners.
These assessments are crucial for learners' transition to junior secondary school in 2025, making the review process equally important for the future of many students.

Kipsang assured the public that both the KCSE and KPSEA results would be released in a timely manner, with all necessary precautions taken to ensure fairness and transparency in the assessment process.

What’s Next for KCSE Candidates?

With the results just days away, candidates, teachers, and parents alike are eagerly awaiting the final announcements. The KCSE results will have significant implications for students' academic futures, including university admissions and career paths.

Stay tuned for more updates on the KCSE results and their release.
