DCI Finally Exoose What Led to the Killing of Female Doctor Near Kenyatta Hospital
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have revealed that the fatal shooting of Nairobi doctor Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso may have been a carefully planned assassination, with investigators pursuing several possible motives behind the shocking attack near Kenyatta National Hospital.
The killing of the respected clinical psychologist and mental health researcher on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, has sparked widespread concern as police intensify efforts to identify those responsible and establish what triggered the deadly attack.
According to preliminary investigations, Dr Mutiso was travelling in a taxi after leaving her home in the Junction area of Kilimani when a four-wheel-drive vehicle blocked their path near Kenyatta National Hospital.
Police say two armed men riding on a motorcycle then approached the taxi and opened fire at close range before escaping.
The seriously injured doctor was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Officers immediately launched investigations to determine the motive and trace the attackers.
Detectives established that Dr Mutiso had previously reported threats to her life at Kilimani Police Station after armed men on a motorcycle allegedly followed her and pointed a firearm at her while she was caught in traffic.
This earlier incident has strengthened investigators' belief that the killing was premeditated.
Police are examining several possible motives. One line of investigation focuses on reports that the doctor was preparing to formalise her marriage in the coming weeks, although detectives have not established how this may have been linked to the shooting.
Investigators are also looking into claims of a family dispute over property, which they believe could provide important leads.
Authorities have not ruled out any angle as they continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
The killing has sent shockwaves across the country, with colleagues, friends and members of the public calling for a thorough investigation.
Detectives say enquiries are ongoing and remain confident that those responsible will be identified and brought before the courts.
