"Died on the Same Day" Obado's Co-Convict Endured Heartbreaking Family Loss Before Murder Verdict
Fresh details have emerged about the personal tragedies that befell Caspal Obiero, one of the three men convicted in the 2018 murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
On July 23, 2026, the Milimani High Court found former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his former personal assistant Michael Oyamo, and former Migori County clerk Caspal Obiero guilty of Sharon's murder. Justice Cecilia Githua ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, linking the three to the killing that occurred between September 3 and 4, 2018.
For Obiero, however, the conviction marked another painful chapter in a series of personal setbacks that had already transformed his life.
Following his arrest in 2018, Obiero also became entangled in corruption-related cases, leading to the freezing of a significant portion of his assets and the loss of much of his accumulated wealth.
His greatest personal tragedy came on April 3, 2024, when his wife, Trizza Obiero, and his stepmother, Patricia Atieno Obiero, were both killed in a road accident on the same day. The devastating incident left his family mourning the loss of two loved ones simultaneously.
The tragedy also had a profound impact on his children, who not only lost their mother and grandmother but now face the reality of growing up without their father following his conviction.
