Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the unconditional release of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, intensifying political pressure over the veteran politician’s detention.
In a statement, Kalonzo criticised the circumstances surrounding Tuju’s arrest, terming it unjust and politically motivated. He urged authorities to respect due process and ensure that Tuju’s rights are upheld.
“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Raphael Tuju. The rule of law must prevail, and no individual should be subjected to unfair treatment,” Kalonzo said.
Tuju, who has previously served in senior government roles, was reportedly detained over a legal dispute, though details surrounding the case remain limited. His arrest has drawn attention from political leaders and legal observers, with some questioning the timing and manner in which it was carried out.
Kalonzo warned that such actions risk undermining public confidence in state institutions, particularly if perceived to be selective or politically driven.
The development comes amid heightened political activity as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Analysts say incidents involving high-profile figures are likely to fuel debate over governance, rule of law and political tolerance.
Supporters of Tuju have also called for transparency in the handling of the case, urging authorities to provide clear information on the charges and legal process involved.
By Monday, there had been no comprehensive response from relevant state agencies regarding the demand for Tuju’s release.
As the situation unfolds, attention is expected to remain on how authorities handle the matter, with political leaders and the public closely watching for developments that could shape perceptions of justice and accountability in the country.
