Edwin Mugo Gichuki has firmly dismissed speculation linking him to a possible exit from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), declaring that he remains fully committed to the ruling party despite growing political shifts in Murang’a County.
The Mathioya MP said he has no intention of abandoning President William Ruto’s political camp, stressing that his focus remains on strengthening the party and delivering development to his constituents.
His remarks come amid heightened political debate following recent signals by Irungu Kang’ata and Chege Njuguna indicating plans to leave UDA, developments that have fueled speculation about wider political realignments in the Mt Kenya region.
However, Gichuki downplayed the significance of the departures, arguing that decisions made by individual leaders should not be interpreted as a reflection of the party’s overall strength or support in the county.
The MP maintained that UDA remains his political home and insisted that he intends to honour the mandate given to him by Mathioya voters who elected him on the party’s ticket.
According to Gichuki, constant political defections only create unnecessary distractions and slow down service delivery to wananchi.
He emphasized that stability within the ruling party is important for ensuring development projects are completed and community needs addressed effectively.
The lawmaker also reaffirmed his support for President Ruto’s administration, saying he remains focused on working with the government to advance development programmes both locally and nationally.
His statement now adds another dimension to the ongoing political conversations surrounding loyalty, succession politics, and shifting alliances in the Mt Kenya region ahea
d of the 2027 General Election.
