Meet Uhuru Kenyatta’s Brothers and Sisters and the Careers They Pursued

  • Uhuru Kenyatta comes from one of Kenya’s most influential political families.
  • His siblings pursued careers in business, diplomacy, media, and public service.
  • Muhoho Kenyatta is widely associated with business and agriculture investments.
  • Margaret Wambui Kenyatta served in politics and diplomacy.
  • Some members of the Kenyatta family have largely stayed away from public politics.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is one of the most recognised political figures in Kenya, but many people know little about the wider Kenyatta family and the careers pursued by his brothers and sisters.

Born on October 26, 1961, Uhuru is the son of Kenya’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

While Uhuru rose to become Kenya’s fourth president, his siblings built careers in different sectors ranging from business and diplomacy to media and public service.

 1. Muhoho Kenyatta — Business and Agriculture

Muhoho Kenyatta is among the most well-known members of the Kenyatta family outside politics.

Unlike Uhuru, Muhoho has mostly kept a low public profile and focused on business ventures. He studied at St. Mary’s School in Nairobi before later graduating from Williams College in the United States with a degree in Political Science.

He has been associated with several family investments, especially in agriculture and dairy farming. Muhoho is widely linked to Brookside Dairy, one of East Africa’s largest dairy firms.

Through these investments, he has played a role in Kenya’s agricultural and business sectors.

2. Christine Wambui — Private Life Away From Politics

Christine Wambui is one of the daughters of Jomo Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

Unlike some members of the family, she has largely maintained a private life away from national politics and public attention.

Although little is publicly documented about her professional career, she remains a respected figure within the Kenyatta family and is occasionally seen during family and national events connected to the family’s legacy.

 3. Margaret Wambui Kenyatta — Politics and Diplomacy

Margaret Wambui Kenyatta, who passed away in 2017, was one of the most accomplished members of the family in public service.

She served as Mayor of Nairobi between 1970 and 1976 before later representing Kenya at the United Nations as the country’s Permanent Representative.

Margaret also served as a commissioner at the former Electoral Commission of Kenya, building a strong reputation in leadership and diplomacy during her lifetime.

4. Peter Magana Kenyatta — Media and Broadcasting

Peter Magana Kenyatta, another son of Jomo Kenyatta, spent much of his professional life in the United Kingdom.

He worked with the BBC as a producer before eventually retiring.

His career in international media and broadcasting made him stand out from other family members involved in politics and business.

A Family That Shaped Kenya’s History

Over the years, the Kenyatta family has remained influential in Kenya’s political, economic, and social landscape.

While Uhuru Kenyatta became Head of State, his siblings followed very different paths, showing the diverse roles members of the family have played both in Kenya and abroad.

From politics and diplomacy to agriculture and international media, the Kenyatta family continues to remain one of the country’s most recognised and discussed families decades after the presidency of Jomo Kenyatta.
