Kisii Governor Simba Arati has stirred political debate after declaring that he is willing to sell his luxurious Range Rover, reportedly worth KSh 40 million, to help fund Fred Matiang'i’s presidential campaign if he is chosen as the flag bearer of the United Opposition.
Speaking during a meeting with former councillors from Kisii County, Arati said he is fully prepared to support Matiang’i’s political ambitions financially if the opposition settles on him as its preferred candidate.
The governor has recently been meeting different groups across the county, including businesspeople, boda boda riders, former councillors, and content creators as he continues to strengthen his political networks.
At the same time, Arati defended his cooperation with President William Ruto’s government, saying working closely with the national administration is important for development projects in Kisii County.
He pointed to constituencies such as Nyaribari Chache and South Mugirango, which he said are benefiting from road projects because their leaders maintain a good relationship with the government.
Arati also claimed that leaders within the United Opposition understand the importance of engaging with the government and are not forcing each other to cut ties with the Kenya Kwanza administration. He mentioned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as an example.
