“Raila Slapped Me 3 Times on Day One” Former Raila Odinga PA Shares Untold Story of Working With the Late Raila

A former aide to Raila Odinga has opened up about a shocking first encounter that turned into years of close service, revealing a strict but deeply caring leadership style.

A former personal assistant to Raila Odinga has revealed a surprising story about his first meeting with the veteran politician an encounter he says began with three slaps but later grew into a long and trusted working relationship.

Jack Nyamburi, who served Odinga for years, recalled that their first meeting took place in 2005 outside Nairobi’s Serena Hotel after a high-level discussion involving constitutional expert Yash Pal Ghai.

According to Nyamburi, the interaction started on a tense note when Odinga allegedly slapped him before driving off. Despite the unexpected moment, Nyamburi says the incident marked the beginning of a career that saw him rise from a messenger to a key figure within Odinga’s inner circle.

He went on to work closely with the former Prime Minister through major political periods, including the Grand Coalition government and several election campaigns.

Nyamburi described Odinga as a disciplined and demanding leader who expected efficiency from his team, but also one who genuinely cared for his staff. He noted that Odinga valued communication, often returning missed calls personally—even from unknown numbers.

He also painted a picture of the once-busy Capitol Hill office, which he says used to host politicians, diplomats, and ordinary Kenyans seeking audience. Today, he claims, the office is largely quiet.

Reflecting on Odinga’s final days, Nyamburi said the leader remained active, holding meetings and supporting staff before later being admitted to hospital. Even while unwell, he reportedly continued following up on official matters.

Following his passing, uncertainty has gripped members of his support team, with reports indicating that some long-serving staff were declared redundant, marking the end of an era for those who had worked alongside one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.
