A Kenyan family is mourning the heartbreaking death of Onesmus Karanja Muniu, who reportedly passed away while working in Dubai.

According to relatives, Onesmus popularly known among friends as “Onesse” or “Onesse Tano Nane” died on April 28 under circumstances described as deeply distressing. His sudden death has left family members, friends, and residents of his home village struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Family spokesperson Nyina Wa Martini described the deceased as hardworking and determined, saying he had travelled abroad in search of a better future and to support his loved ones back home.

Back at his rural home in Kamuguga, Gwa Thuu Ya Ngoma, mourning relatives and neighbours have continued gathering to offer emotional support and prayers to the bereaved family.

The family is now facing another difficult challenge raising enough money to transport his body back to Kenya for burial. Relatives say they hope to lay him to rest at his ancestral home in Njiku Kamuembe once repatriation arrangements are completed.

To meet the costs involved, the family has organised a fundraising drive scheduled for May 10. They are seeking to raise approximately KSh1.2 million to cater for repatriation and funeral expenses.

The appeal for assistance has been extended to friends, well-wishers, and Kenyans living both locally and abroad as the family races against time to bring their loved one home.

Meanwhile, the tragedy has also renewed concern over the welfare of Kenyans working overseas, especially in Gulf countries where cases involving deaths, disappearances, and labour disputes have occasionally been reported.

In a related development, another Kenyan family is still searching for answers after Gregory Onyango reportedly disappeared in Dubai in 2022. His whereabouts remain unknown more than three years later, leaving his family in prolonged uncertainty.

As preparations continue for Onesmus’s final journey home, relatives say they are holding onto the memories of a young man remembered for resilience, sacrifice, and determination to bu

ild a better life for his family.
