Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sparked fresh political debate after accusing President William Ruto’s administration of allegedly trying to politically isolate former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during a public gathering, Kalonzo claimed there were deliberate efforts to weaken Uhuru’s influence in national politics, warning that such moves could increase political tensions in the country.
The opposition leader compared the alleged strategy to what he described as previous attempts to sideline ODM leader Raila Odinga from Kenya’s political scene. According to Kalonzo, powerful leaders who command massive support have often faced coordinated political attacks aimed at reducing their influence.
Kalonzo argued that such actions undermine democracy and create unnecessary divisions among Kenyans. He further warned that any attempt to interfere with Uhuru Kenyatta’s freedoms or political activities could trigger serious political backlash and deepen regional tensions.
His remarks came shortly after controversial statements made by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar regarding historical land issues at the Coast and political disputes involving the Mt. Kenya region.
While some UDA leaders attempted to calm the situation through public apologies, Kalonzo insisted that accountability should go beyond words, saying leaders must be careful with statements capable of dividing the country.
Political analysts believe Kalonzo’s strong defense of Uhuru signals growing efforts by opposition leaders to strengthen alliances ahead of future political battles as Kenya’s political landscape continues to shift.
