“What Kind of Leadership Is This?” Wamuchomba Questions How Presidential Candidate Takes 1Hour Live on Air Telling 1Community They Are Hated

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has sparked fresh political debate after taking issue with a presidential aspirant whom she accused of promoting ethnic politics instead of offering solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans.

In a strongly worded statement, the outspoken lawmaker criticized an hour-long interview conducted in Kikuyu language, claiming the candidate spent most of the time discussing how one community was allegedly being targeted, discriminated against, and sidelined.

Wamuchomba questioned whether such messaging was appropriate for a leader seeking the country's highest office, arguing that presidential hopefuls should focus on uniting citizens and addressing national concerns rather than emphasizing ethnic grievances.

“When a presidential candidate spends one hour on live television telling a community how hated and targeted they are, what should that be called if not tribal politics?” she posed.

According to the MP, the interview failed to address critical issues affecting millions of Kenyans, including the rising cost of living, unemployment, healthcare challenges, poverty, and economic growth.

She argued that citizens are more interested in hearing practical solutions on how leaders plan to improve livelihoods, create jobs, support farmers, strengthen trade, and tackle social problems affecting families across the country.

Wamuchomba further expressed concern about the political direction being taken by some leaders seeking support from the Mt Kenya region. She warned residents against blindly following politicians who, in her view, prioritize personal ambitions over national development and unity.

Her remarks have generated mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans supporting her call for issue-based politics while others defended the candidate, saying leaders have a right to discuss concerns affecting specific communities.

As political activities continue to intensify ahead of future elections, the debate has once again highlighted the sensitive role ethnicity plays in Kenya's political landscape. Many observers argue that the country's leaders must focus on promoting national cohesion while offering clear policy proposals capable of addressing the economic and social challenges facing citizens.

The latest exchange is expected to fuel further discussion on whether Kenya's political discourse is shifting toward issue-based campaigns or remains heavily influenced by ethnic considerations.
