Meet Zawadi Nyong'o, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's Daughter Who Married Her Beautiful Mzungu Wife Back In 2022
Zawadi Nyong'o, the daughter of Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, has revealed that she secretly got married in 2022, sharing the news publicly for the first time through an Instagram post.
The digital media strategist and wellness advocate disclosed that she exchanged vows with her wife on August 8, 2022. She said the date held deep personal meaning because it coincided with the Lion's Gate Portal and what would have been her late grandmother's 88th birthday.
"We got married on 8/8/22. The Lion's Gate Portal and my angel grandmother's 88th birthday," she wrote.
Alongside the message, Zawadi shared a graphic explaining the Lion's Gate Portal, an annual astrological event believed by some to represent a period of personal growth, manifestation and new beginnings. She appeared to choose the date because of both its spiritual significance and its connection to her grandmother.
Although Zawadi has previously spoken openly about being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she had never publicly revealed that she was already married.
In October 2025, she introduced her mzungu wife, Rachel, and their daughter, Amaya, giving Kenyans their first public glimpse into her family. Since then, she has occasionally shared moments from their lives together on social media.
One of the posts that attracted widespread attention showed Governor Anyang' Nyong'o spending time with Zawadi, Rachel and their daughter. The family gathering sparked discussion online, especially because same-sex relationships remain a sensitive topic in Kenya.
Her latest revelation has now filled in an important part of her family's story by confirming that she and Rachel had been married for more than two years before introducing their relationship publicly.
