Busia County Governor Paul Otuoma is facing intense online scrutiny following the circulation of a video showing him in a heated confrontation with a resident during a public event.
The incident reportedly occurred during a county exercise where maize seeds were being distributed to local residents. Community members had lined up to receive the farming inputs when the confrontation took place.
Footage from the event shows the governor handing out packets of seeds to people in the queue before an unexpected interruption occurred.
According to the video, a man approached the distribution area after appearing to bypass others waiting in line. The individual seemingly attempted to collect two packets of maize seeds directly from the governor.
The governor briefly paused before reacting. In the clip, he is seen kicking the man while instructing him to leave the area.
Even after the man moved away, the governor continued shouting and demanding that he exit the scene immediately.
The viral footage quickly sparked widespread discussion online, with many Kenyans debating the conduct of public leaders during community engagements.
Some commentators criticized the governor’s reaction, arguing that public officials should exercise restraint when dealing with members of the public.
Others, however, suggested the confrontation may have been provoked by the resident’s attempt to bypass the queue, which could have disrupted the orderly distribution process.
The incident has reignited conversations about how elected leaders interact with citizens during public programs.
The debate comes shortly after another public confrontation involving a senior government official attracted attention online.
Jane Kere Imbunya was recently filmed instructing journalists to remove microphones and recording equipment during an event she was addressing in Vihiga County.
In the footage, the principal secretary argued that the equipment was obstructing the audience’s view and insisted it be cleared before she could continue speaking.
The back-to-back incidents have intensified discussions around public conduct by government officials and their interactions with citizens and the media.
