Pressure as Kenya National Union (Knut) Rejects TSC's Proposal to Separate Junior Secondary from Primary Schools.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has rejected the Teachers Service Commission’s (TSC) proposal to separate junior secondary schools from primary schools.

The TSC had suggested restructuring the education system by moving junior secondary into its own category, separate from the primary school structure.

Knut has voiced strong opposition to the proposal, citing concerns over the potential disruption it could cause to the education system.

The union argues that separating junior secondary from primary schools could lead to logistical challenges, increased costs, and an overcomplicated administrative structure.

Knut also emphasized that such a change could negatively affect both students and teachers, particularly in areas where resources and infrastructure are already limited.

The union believes that keeping junior secondary schools integrated within the primary school system would provide a more seamless transition for students and would better utilize existing resources.

They have called for further discussions to find a solution that ensures quality education without causing unnecessary disruptions.

The TSC’s proposal was part of broader efforts to adapt to the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), but with Knut’s rejection, it is unclear how the restructuring will proceed. The issue remains a point of contention among education stakeholders.
