Thousands of 2025 KCSE candidates are racing against time as the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service application portal officially closes tonight, Wednesday, May 6, at exactly 11:59 p.m.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome has issued a final appeal to students across the country to ensure they complete and submit their course applications before the deadline, warning that many risk missing out due to incomplete processes.

According to Dr. Wahome, a significant number of applicants have only selected courses and saved them in their “course basket” without making the final submission—an error that could cost them placement in the first round.

“Adding programmes to the basket is not enough. Candidates must complete and submit their applications to be considered,” she cautioned.

Data released on Wednesday morning shows that out of 268,714 candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ in the 2025 KCSE exams, at least 207,308—representing 77 percent—had successfully submitted their applications.

KUCCPS has, however, assured students and parents that there is no shortage of opportunities. The placement body confirmed that over 1.4 million slots are available across 508 institutions countrywide. This includes 322,396 university spaces and more than 1.1 million positions in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

Students have also been encouraged to explore technical and skill-based courses, especially in areas such as electricity, woodwork, music, and drawing and design, which recorded strong performance rates in the 2025 exams.

For those who may miss the deadline or wish to revise their choices, KUCCPS announced a second application window scheduled to run from May 16 to May 22, 2026.

With only hours remaining, candidates are now being urged to log into the KUCCPS portal and complete their submissions to avoid being locked out of the initial placement process.
