President William Ruto has made fresh changes in his government after announcing a reshuffle involving senior Principal Secretaries in a move aimed at strengthening service delivery across key state departments.
According to a notice released from the Executive Office of the President, the reshuffle takes immediate effect and affects leadership in the petroleum and regional development sectors.
The most notable change sees Kello Harsama moved from the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development to the State Department for Petroleum. The transfer comes at a time when the government is under increasing pressure to address concerns surrounding fuel prices and energy management in the country.
The changes were made under Article 155(4) of the Constitution, which gives the President authority to reassign Principal Secretaries within government ministries and departments.
In another adjustment, Dr. Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, who currently serves as Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs, has also been handed additional responsibilities. She will now act as Principal Secretary for the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development as the transition takes place.
The Presidency stated that the reshuffle is intended to ensure continuity in government operations while improving coordination and efficiency in key sectors.
Political observers believe the latest changes signal President Ruto’s efforts to reorganize his administration ahead of major development and economic priorities expected in the coming months.
The petroleum docket remains one of the most sensitive areas in government due to the rising cost of fuel and growing public concern over the high cost of living. The reassignment of leadership in the sector is therefore expected to attract significant public and political attention.
Kenyans are now waiting to see how the newly assigned officials will handle their responsibilities and whether the changes will help improve service delivery and restore confidence in the affected departments.
