The wife of St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls Secondary School deputy principal Caleb Wekesa has emotionally spoken for the first time following the sudden death of her husband in a hotel room in Webuye, Bungoma County.
Speaking through tears, the grieving widow revealed that they had been married for 20 years and were blessed with four children, including a breastfeeding baby. She described the heartbreaking moment she was informed that her husband had been rushed to hospital, only to later discover he had already passed away.
According to the widow, she hurried to the hospital hoping doctors would save him, but instead she was directed to the mortuary where she found his body labelled “dead on arrival.” She painfully mourned him as a loving husband, caring father, and dependable family man whose sudden death has left the family shattered.
Reports indicate that Wekesa had attended a school-related academic function on Saturday before later spending the evening in the company of a 28-year-old woman. Police reports state that the two allegedly visited entertainment spots in Webuye before checking into a hotel later that night.
Detectives say that at around midnight, the deputy principal reportedly began complaining of feeling unwell while inside the hotel room. Hotel workers who responded reportedly found him foaming at the mouth before rushing him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A postmortem examination later established that the teacher died from a cardiac-related complication linked to extreme pressure. Bungoma KUPPET officials have since urged teachers and professionals to prioritise regular medical check-ups and stress management due to increasing cases of pressure-related illnesses.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s father has called for thorough investigations, insisting his son had no known medical condition before the tragic incident.
The sudden death of Caleb Wekesa has deeply shocked Bungoma residents, students, colleagues, and the wider teaching fraternity, with many remembering him as a dedicated educator and mentor whose life ended unexpectedly.
