Step by Step Procedure on How to Apply, Download & Print Your Birth Certificate Online in Kenya Following Murkomen Announcement

The Kenyan government has introduced a new system that allows citizens to download and print birth certificates online, eliminating the need to visit Civil Registration offices for collection.


Follow these simple steps:


 Step 1: Log Into Your eCitizen Account


Visit the official eCitizen portal and sign in using your registered email address and password.


If you do not have an account, create one and complete the registration process.


Step 2: Access Civil Registration Services


Once logged in, navigate to the Civil Registration Services section on the eCitizen dashboard.


Step 3: Check Your Birth Certificate Application Status


Select your birth certificate application and confirm that it has been processed and approved.



Only approved applications will be available for download.


 Step 4: Download the Birth Certificate


Click on the download option provided next to your approved application.


The birth certificate will be generated in PDF format.


Step 5: Save the Document


Download and save the PDF file on your phone, tablet, or computer for future use.


Step 6: Print the Certificate


Open the downloaded PDF and print it using a home printer or at a cyber café.


Ensure the document is printed clearly for official use.


 For New Applications


If you have not yet applied for a birth certificate, follow these steps:


1. Log into your eCitizen account.

2. Select "Application for Child's Current Birth Certificate."

3. Fill in the required details.

4. Upload scanned copies of the required documents, including your ID and birth notification.

5. Pay the prescribed application fee through the available payment options.

6. Submit the application and wait for processing.


The government has indicated that once the application is approved, applicants will be able to download and print their birth certificates online without visiting Civil Registration offices.


 Important Note


The Interior Ministry has announced the rollout of the online download service. Citizens are advised to follow updates on the eCitizen platform for detailed instructions and any additional requirements that may be communicated as implementation continues.
