Albert Ojwang's Widow Expose Governor Sakaja Unfulfilled Fake Job Promise
Nevnina Onyango, the widow of the late Albert Ojwang, has spoken publicly about the challenges she continues to face months after receiving promises of support following her husband's burial.
Taking to her social media, Onyango said she has struggled to secure employment in the health sector despite assurances made by several leaders during the funeral held in July last year.
She explained that finding a stable job has proved difficult, leaving her uncertain about the future.
Among those who pledged support was Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
During the burial ceremony, the governor promised to pay school fees for Onyango and her child and also assured her that she would be offered employment after completing her studies.
According to Onyango, she successfully completed her training and expected the employment promise to materialise. However, she said she is still searching for an opportunity to work in the healthcare field.
Her remarks have reignited public discussion about the commitments often made by leaders during funerals and whether such promises are followed through after the public attention fades.
Onyango said she remains hopeful that the pledge will eventually be honoured, adding that securing employment would enable her to provide a stable life for her family and fulfil her professional ambitions.
Albert Ojwang died in police custody following his arrest over a controversial social media post, leaving behind a two-year-old son, and his widow, who was at the time pursuing a diploma in community health.
Sakaja met Ojwang's family at City Hall in June 2025, pledging to cover burial costs, fund George Miles' education, and clear Nevnina's outstanding college fees. Crucially, he also committed to securing her a county government job upon graduation.
