Man Captured Carrying His Disabled Father At Kiambu Hospital Due to Lack of a Wheelchair
A man identified as Ndegwa has sparked mixed reactions online after a video showed him carrying his sick father on his back at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. The emotional clip has attracted mixed reactions with many Kenyans expressing sympathy and concern over the situation.
In the video, Ndegwa is seen struggling as he carries his elderly father from the hospital's casualty department to the Nyayo Ward. According to his account, he decided to carry his father after allegedly being informed that there were no functional wheelchairs available at the hospital.
The footage quickly spread across social media, where many users praised Ndegwa for his love and dedication to his father despite the difficult circumstances. Others questioned why a major public hospital would allegedly fail to provide such an essential service to patients.
Following the public outcry, several well-wishers offered to support the family. Among those who responded was Kikuyu businessman and philanthropist Karangu Wa Muraya.
In an update shared on his social media pages, Muraya said he had spoken to Ndegwa and arranged to provide him with a wheelchair. He explained that he would deliver the wheelchair either later that evening or early the following morning.
Muraya also revealed that he had another wheelchair available and invited anyone with a genuine need to contact him for assistance.
The incident has also renewed debate about the state of healthcare services in public hospitals. Kiambu Level 5 Hospital is one of the largest referral health facilities in Kiambu County. It serves thousands of patients every month and offers services including emergency care, surgery, maternity, outpatient treatment, and specialized clinics.
While the hospital has not publicly responded to Ndegwa's claims, the incident has raised fresh questions about the availability of essential medical equipment in busy public health facilities.
