Speaking candidly in an interview, Trisha shared her journey, which began long before her move to Nairobi. “Before I moved to Nairobi, I used to go to Kongowea market in Mombasa, which is like Gikomba market,” she said. At Kongowea, Trisha would purchase second-hand clothes, popularly known as mitumba, and sell them to earn a living.
Her entrepreneurial spirit pushed her to explore innovative ways to market her goods. “I would post these clothes online and even go live to sell them for as little as Sh800,” she revealed. This online strategy gave her a competitive edge, but it was not without its challenges.
To diversify her business, Trisha traveled to Uganda, where she sourced high-quality bags for resale. Additionally, she ventured into importing shoes from China, tapping into the growing demand for affordable yet stylish footwear. These ventures required both time and financial investments, yet Trisha persevered despite the odds.
“People didn’t want to see all that hustle,” she lamented. According to her, many tend to focus only on the final product—her success—while disregarding the sacrifices and hard work that went into it.
