Elgeyo Marakwet Governor says the late Emurua Dikirr MP had promised to host the 2026 Awards in Iten before the fatal helicopter crash that killed him and five others in Nandi Forest.
Kenyans are still coming to terms with the tragic death of Emurua Dikirr MP Hon. Johana Kipyegon Ngeno following a deadly helicopter crash on Saturday evening, February 28, 2026, in Nandi Forest.
As messages of condolence continue to pour in from across the country, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor H.E. Wesley Rotich has shared an emotional tribute revealing what the late MP had planned before his sudden demise.
In a heartfelt message posted on his official social media platforms, Governor Rotich described Hon. Ngeno as big-hearted, passionate, kind, and deeply supportive of young and upcoming artists.
He noted that the MP had promised to host the 2026 Awards ceremony in Iten, a plan that now remains unfulfilled.
“Hon Johana Kipyegon Ngeno was a big-hearted, passionate, kind and an inspiration to the young upcoming artists. He made all our artists feel appreciated and valued. He had promised to host the 2026 Awards at Iten. My sincere condolences to his wife, children, family, the people of Dikir, Narok, the National Assembly and Kenya at large. We also mourn with the families who lost loved ones during the crash. Go well namesake,” the Governor wrote.
The helicopter crash in Nandi Forest claimed the lives of Hon. Ngeno and five other individuals. Authorities are still working to officially confirm the identities of the other victims as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
The nation now mourns not just a legislator, but a leader many describe as approachable, supportive, and passionate about community empowerment.
