“Heshimu Rais” Chaos Claims Emerge as Tension Rocks Emurua Dikirr By-Election

  • Tension were heard shouting “Heshimu Rais” during the confrontations.
  • Several people were reportedly injured during overnight chaos, according to DCP communication strategist GK Malema.
  • The by-election was called following the death of former MP Johana Ng’eno.
  •  Political observers noted that UDA’s campaign presence appeared less aggressive compared to the recent Mbeere North by-election.

Voting in the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election was reportedly overshadowed by tension and allegations of voter intimidation as residents turned out to elect a new Member of Parliament to replace the late Johana Ng’eno.

According to reports aired by TV47, chaos was witnessed in some polling areas, with claims that groups of suspected goons moved around intimidating residents and supporters linked to rival camps.

Speaking during an interview, DCP communication strategist GK Malema claimed that the violence started overnight and left several people injured. He further alleged that supporters associated with the party’s preferred candidate were threatened by individuals chanting “Heshimu Rais.”

“UDA goons are everywhere at polling stations. Chaos erupted at night, leaving several people injured. DCP’s stronghold candidate was threatened by goons shouting ‘Heshimu Rais,’” Malema claimed.

The allegations have since sparked debate online, with political supporters from different sides exchanging reactions as voting continued across the constituency.

The by-election has attracted national attention because it is seen as an early political test ahead of the 2027 General Election. However, some political observers noted that the ruling UDA party appeared less visible on the ground compared to the recently concluded Mbeere North by-election, where senior leaders heavily campaigned for days.

Some analysts now believe President William Ruto’s camp may have adopted a wait-and-see approach in the highly contested race.

Despite the tension claims, voting continued in several polling stations as residents lined up to cast their ballots. Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive statement regarding the allegations of violence and intimidation.
