Billions of Shillings: President Ruto's Government is Now Set to Use in JKIA Expansion to World Standards Now Exposed

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has moved to address growing public concerns over the planned expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), dismissing reports that the project will cost taxpayers KSh 375 billion.

Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, Mbadi stated that the actual projected cost of the airport modernization project is significantly lower than the figures currently circulating in public discussions.

According to the Treasury CS, the government's estimated budget for the project stands at approximately KSh 155 billion, equivalent to about US$1.2 billion. He emphasized that the amount is nearly half of the KSh 375 billion figure that has sparked debate among Kenyans.

Mbadi urged the public to verify information from official government sources before drawing conclusions about major national projects. He noted that some reports and headlines may not always accurately reflect the details of ongoing government plans.

The clarification comes as concerns continue to grow regarding the financing structure of the ambitious airport upgrade project. Several stakeholders have called for greater transparency regarding procurement processes, funding arrangements, and the overall cost to taxpayers.

Recently, the Law Society of Kenya raised questions about reports linking the project to a much higher financial commitment. The society argued that large-scale infrastructure investments should be subjected to public scrutiny to ensure value for money and accountability.

Despite the concerns, government officials maintain that the expansion is necessary to improve JKIA's capacity, modernize airport facilities, and strengthen Kenya's position as one of Africa's leading aviation hubs.

The project is expected to accommodate increasing passenger numbers, improve service delivery, and support economic growth by enhancing regional and international connectivity.

As discussions continue, many Kenyans are expected to closely monitor further announcements regarding the project's financing model, implementation timeline, and expected economic benefits.

With conflicting figures now dominating public discourse, Mbadi's clarification is likely to intensify conversations about transparency and accountability in major government infrastructure projects.
