Renowned media personality Willis Wayne Raburu has opened up about the moment Citizen TV gave him Ksh.1 million in a bid to stop him from leaving Royal Media Services.
In a recent interview with Kalondu Musyimi of Mpasho during a quickfire session, Raburu shared that his first million came as a result of a retention move by his former employer.
According to Raburu, the incident happened in 2016 or 2017 when he was contemplating leaving Citizen TV after years of service.
At the time, he was hosting the popular entertainment show 10/10, which had become a youth favorite across the country. Raburu revealed that he was offered multiple cheques totaling Ksh.1 million to reconsider his decision. The generous offer worked, and he chose to remain with the station.
“That was the first time I became a millionaire,” he said with a smile, crediting Citizen TV for valuing his contribution to the company.
Raburu worked at Citizen TV for over a decade before eventually exiting in 2023. He became a household name, not only through 10/10 but also for his energetic reporting style and engaging presence on-screen. His departure was met with mixed reactions from fans who had followed his journey over the years.
However, Raburu also teased a major comeback in 2025, saying he would return to television but in a completely new format. He hinted that the upcoming project would showcase a different side of his talent.
