Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on the government to release CCTV footage connected to the murder of Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari, raising concern over what he described as silence from security agencies and senior state officials.

Speaking on Sunday during a memorial service at Presbyterian Church of East Africa Macedonia, Baraka Parish in Ongata Rongai, Gachagua questioned why investigators had not publicly shared details surrounding the killing, including surveillance footage that could assist in identifying suspects.

According to the former Deputy President, the lack of communication from authorities risks creating fear and uncertainty among Kenyans, particularly within the religious community.

Gachagua said the matter had not received enough public attention and urged both church leaders and political figures to speak out strongly against attacks targeting religious leaders.

“I told our moderator that many people feel this matter has not received sufficient attention from the church leadership. We must speak out because when you don’t speak, people become very bold,” Gachagua stated during the service.

He also revealed that he personally contacted the PCEA moderator to express concern over what he termed as weak condemnation following the death of the cleric.

The former DP challenged investigative agencies to speed up investigations and provide regular updates to both the family and the public. He argued that releasing CCTV footage and other available evidence would help restore public confidence in the investigation process.

The killing of Reverend Ndumia has continued to spark outrage among faithful and leaders, with mourners at the memorial service describing the incident as shocking and calling for swift justice.

Police had not yet issued a detailed public statement on the progress of investigations into the murder by the time of publication.
