Questions Emerge After Ndindi Nyoro Is Left Out of Gachagua’s List of MPs Who Allegedly Opposed Finance Bill 2026

  •  Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua released a list of MPs he claimed voted against the Finance Bill 2026.
  • Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was notably absent from the list despite his public criticism of the Bill.
  •  Nyoro had been among the most vocal lawmakers opposing several provisions during parliamentary debate.
  •  Gachagua praised the MPs on his list for allegedly standing with ordinary Kenyans.
  • The accuracy of the voting list remains difficult to independently verify.

Political debate intensified on Friday after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua published a list of lawmakers he claimed voted against the Finance Bill 2026, with the absence of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro quickly attracting attention.

The omission surprised many observers, particularly because Nyoro had emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of the Bill during its consideration in the National Assembly.

Throughout the parliamentary debate, the Kiharu legislator repeatedly raised concerns about several tax and revenue proposals contained in the legislation. He argued that some of the measures could increase financial pressure on Kenyans already grappling with the rising cost of living.

His interventions often placed him at the center of heated exchanges with senior government-allied lawmakers, including Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and members of the Finance and National Planning Committee.

Given his strong public stance, many expected Nyoro to feature prominently among lawmakers recognized for opposing the Bill. However, when Gachagua released a list of 40 MPs he said voted "No" during the final vote, Nyoro's name was missing.

In his statement, Gachagua commended the legislators he listed, describing them as leaders who chose to represent the interests of their constituents by rejecting what he characterized as burdensome proposals.

Among those mentioned were several opposition and independent-minded lawmakers, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo.

The development has sparked fresh discussion on social media, with some Kenyans questioning why Nyoro was excluded despite his visible opposition to the legislation during parliamentary proceedings.

However, it is important to note that claims regarding how individual MPs voted remain difficult to independently verify without official records. Much of the voting process was conducted electronically, and publicly available information may not immediately provide a complete breakdown of every member's vote.

As debate surrounding the Finance Bill 2026 continues, attention is likely to remain focused on the voting records of lawmakers and the political implications of their positions. The controversy surrounding Nyoro's omission highlights the growing public interest in accountability, transparency, and the role elected leaders play in major economic decisions affecting citizens.

Whether further clarification emerges from Parliament or the lawmakers involved remains to be seen, but the discussion has already added another dimension to the broader political conversation surrounding the Finance Bill and its impact on Kenyans.
