Charity Mwamba, the lead role in Mother-in-Law series, opened up on how abusive her marriage was, a 30-year court battle over property ownership that saw her spend a lot of money and how lonely her life had become.
Wanjiru separated from her husband, Shem Bageine, Uganda's former Minister for East African Affairs, in 1981 when she was in her mid-forties. Bageine relocated to Uganda after his Kenyan citizenship was revoked by the government in 1987.
The two met while studying at Makerere University and got married while still students.
In a recent YouTube interview with 'Metha ya Kagoni', the mother of three said he took away her children.According to Charity, her ex-husband was ambitious and heavily involved in politics. They did not see eye to eye on his quest and fell out on principle after she stood her ground.
The last straw was when he was recalled by President Yoweri Museveni to assist in nation-building after the deposition of Amin. He took their three children with him.
Then High Court Judge Richard Kuloba, in 2013, ruled that Ms Wanjiru shouldn’t be thrown out of her home, but did not grant her ownership.
The enstranged couple is set to appear in the Court of Appeal on Thursday, alongside Mugo Muiru Investments Limited and Housing Finance Company, the developer of the property.
Outside politics, Bageine has been known as a professional surveyor and is associated with Bageine & Company Ltd a real estate and property management firm in Kampala. He is listed as a registered surveyor in Uganda indicating his professional involvement in land economics and property valuation.
Bageine has also publicly supported cooperative banking initiatives as means of promoting saving culture and economic stability for ordinary Ugandans.
