BBC Finally Exposes Police Officers Behind GenZ Shootings During 2024 Maandamano

BBC Africa has finally unveiled the identities of the police and army officers involved in the brutal crackdown on GenZ protesters during the 2024 finance bill demonstrations in Kenya. The protests, largely led by young Kenyans, saw over 60 GenZs shot dead, hundreds reported missing, and many still unaccounted for today.

In a detailed investigative feature aired on June 25th, 2024, BBC meticulously analyzed videos recorded during the maandamano.

Their investigation successfully identified the faces of certain officers responsible for the killings. Shockingly, BBC also revealed that not only police officers but also army personnel were deployed to the streets to suppress the protests violently.

On the main day of the demonstrations, BBC confirmed the identities of two police officers and one army officer who were caught on camera shooting at unarmed young protesters. The investigation highlighted how some state forces were allegedly hired to kill the youth during the unrest.

Among those exposed was the army officer linked to the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Eric Chieni. Photos of the army officer, along with images of two other police officers accused of killing two protesters outside Parliament, were shared by BBC.
