"I Raised Ksh100 Million That I Paid Senators To Influence Impeachment" Former Ruto's CS Claims

Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has ignited a political storm after claiming he raised KSh100 million to influence senators during the impeachment of former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Speaking during a late-night interview on March 1, 2026, Linturi alleged that he mobilized the funds from friends, Members of Parliament, and political allies.

He claimed that the money was meant to counter what he described as a separate effort to influence how senators would vote in the impeachment process.

According to Linturi, there was already a belief among his supporters that certain individuals were using financial incentives to sway members of the Senate of Kenya.

He said those who contributed to the KSh100 million fund felt they had no choice but to respond in a similar manner to protect their political interests.

However, Linturi did not provide any documentary evidence or specific names to support his explosive allegations.

His remarks have since triggered widespread debate, with Kenyans questioning the credibility and integrity of the impeachment process.

The impeachment of Mwangaza had already sharply divided leaders and residents in Meru County.

While some leaders supported her removal, accusing her of poor leadership and political conflicts, others insisted the process was politically motivated.

Linturi’s latest claims have now added a new layer of controversy to an already tense political environment.

Legal experts argue that if such allegations are proven true, they could amount to serious criminal offenses, including bribery and abuse of office.

They are now calling for thorough investigations by relevant state agencies to determine whether there was any unlawful influence in the Senate proceedings.

Political analysts warn that the claims could have far-reaching implications, especially as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.

They say the controversy could reshape political alliances in Meru and beyond, particularly among leaders positioning themselves for future contests.

The allegations have also intensified public scrutiny of Parliament and oversight institutions.

Many Kenyans are demanding transparency and accountability to restore trust in democratic institutions.

As pressure mounts, attention is now firmly on investigative agencies and parliamentary leadership to clarify the matter and reassure the public that constitutional processes remain free from corruption and manipulation.

Whether Linturi’s claims will be substantiated remains to be seen, but the political ripple effects are already being felt across the country.
