"Singapore, Singapoor, Singapool, Sinkhapo" Top Senator Mocks President Ruto Dream As Floods Paralyze Nairobi
Moses Kajwang' has mocked President William Ruto over the government’s often repeated promise to transform the country into a “Singapore of Africa,” after heavy floods once again paralyzed parts of Nairobi City County.
The senator reacted after videos and images circulated online showing vehicles struggling through flooded streets in several parts of the capital.
Public transport vehicles were seen moving slowly through waterlogged roads while pedestrians waded through muddy water as drainage systems failed to cope with the heavy rain.
Kajwang’ took to social media to ridicule the situation, saying the scenes being witnessed in the capital were far from the modern city leaders have promised Kenyans.
In a sarcastic remark, he repeated several humorous variations of the name Singapore before concluding that the reality in Nairobi painted a very different picture.
His comments quickly drew attention online, with many Kenyans joining the conversation and sharing their frustrations about the state of infrastructure in the city.
Several residents complained that flooding has become a recurring problem whenever heavy rains hit.
The remarks come at a time when the national government continues to promote its ambition of turning Kenya into a regional economic powerhouse.
However, critics argue that persistent problems such as poor drainage, traffic gridlock and weak urban planning must first be addressed before such ambitions can be realized.
