UDA Sweeps May 14 By-Elections as Ruto Allies Secure Major Wins in Emurua Dikirr and Beyond

  • UDA won all by-elections held on May 14, 2026.
  • David Kipsang Keter defeated DCP’s Vincent Rotich in the high-stakes Emurua Dikirr MP race.
  • The contest was widely viewed as a political battle between President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
  • UDA also secured victories in Samburu and Elgeyo/Marakwet MCA by-elections.
  • Political analysts say the results could shape early momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) recorded a major political victory after sweeping all by-elections conducted across the country on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

The most closely followed contest took place in Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, where UDA candidate David Kipsang Keter emerged victorious with 15,205 votes, translating to 62.5 percent of the total valid votes cast.

His closest challenger, Vincent Kibet Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), garnered 8,602 votes in a race that had attracted national attention due to its political significance.

The parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of former MP Johana Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.

Political observers had framed the Emurua Dikirr contest as a direct political showdown between President William Ruto and his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

While UDA backed David Keter, the DCP candidate Vincent Rotich was seen as being aligned to Gachagua’s political camp, making the outcome a major statement in the country’s shifting political landscape.

Beyond Emurua Dikirr, UDA candidates also secured victories in other by-elections held the same day.

In Samburu, UDA candidate Daniel Lolngojine won the MCA seat after polling 2,328 votes, representing 54.6 percent of the ballots cast.

Meanwhile, in Elgeyo/Marakwet, UDA’s Festus Korir Kirop delivered one of the biggest margins of the day after securing 4,172 votes, equivalent to 82.3 percent of the total votes cast.

Following the announcement of the results, government digital strategist Dennis Itumbi celebrated the outcome, stating that UDA had once again demonstrated its growing political strength across the country.

The by-election victories are now expected to intensify political discussions as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
