Mourners attending the funeral of former Cabinet Minister Dalmas Otieno in Rongo, Migori County, were left in laughter and admiration after his widow made a surprising revelation about her marriage life.
In her heartfelt tribute, the widow disclosed that she allowed her late husband to bring home another woman, Dorothy, who became his second wife.
To the amazement of the mourners, she narrated how the unusual arrangement worked under one roof for more than 14 years.
“I lived with Dorothy ever since she got married to my husband; for 14 years under one roof. I gave them a room until she got her twins.
And she did not move out, she still lives with me,” she revealed, sparking loud claps from the congregation.
She explained that many people questioned her decision to allow her husband to bring a second wife into their home, but she stood firm. According to her, it was an act of love and respect for her husband.
“So many people challenged me about it. I said, I love my husband and I respect him. I refused, I didn’t want him to park his car in Rongo where Dorothy had a rented house.
I told my husband, bring that woman home, we have a big house and I am going to give her a room,” she said.
Her honesty and courage in narrating the story left mourners both entertained and touched. The revelation highlighted the deep sense of sacrifice she made to protect her marriage and keep her family together despite challenges.
Dalmas Otieno, who served as a powerful Cabinet Minister in different regimes, was remembered for his political influence, wisdom, and contribution to the nation.
Yet, it was the personal story shared by his widow that dominated conversations at the funeral, showing the softer side of the late leader’s family life.
The unusual marital arrangement, embraced openly by his widow, turned out to be one of the most memorable moments of the funeral, reminding many that love, respect, and sacrifice often take forms that outsiders may not understand.
