TSC Announces Rewards for Best Teachers and Top-Performing Schools in All Counties

  •  Teachers Service Commission plans to reward outstanding teachers and schools nationwide
  • Top-performing teachers in national exams set to receive recognition and incentives
  • Rural and day schools also targeted under new fairness-based programme
  • TSC says initiative aims to improve education quality and teacher morale
  • Schools showing strong academic improvement to receive awards
  • Programme expected to increase healthy competition in the education sector

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled plans to recognise and reward top-performing teachers and schools across all counties in Kenya as part of efforts to improve the quality of education nationwide.

According to the commission, the programme will focus on identifying teachers who consistently help learners achieve strong academic results, especially in national examinations and other performance assessments.

Schools that demonstrate major improvement in academic performance are also expected to benefit from the initiative through awards and public recognition.

TSC says the move is aimed at motivating teachers, promoting fairness, and encouraging higher education standards across the country.

Under the proposed programme, rewards may include certificates, recognition events, and other incentives designed to appreciate teachers and institutions showing exceptional commitment to learning outcomes.

The commission noted that the initiative will not only focus on elite national schools but will also recognise small, rural, and under-resourced schools that manage to post impressive results despite facing challenges.

Education officials believe this approach could help bridge the performance gap between different regions while giving equal opportunity for recognition across the country.

The commission further stated that many teachers continue to work under difficult conditions, including overcrowded classrooms and limited learning resources, making motivation and recognition important for improving morale.

School administrators have welcomed the plan, saying it could encourage healthy competition and strengthen focus on academic excellence.

Parents and education stakeholders are also expected to benefit if schools improve performance levels and student outcomes.

According to TSC, the selection process will rely on official academic performance data and other assessment indicators to ensure fairness and transparency in identifying winners from every county.

The programme is expected to roll out in phases, with more operational details set to be communicated to schools and education offices in the coming months.

Education experts say the initiative could play a major role in strengthening Kenya’s education system if implemented fairly and consistently across all regions.
